Spring in Virginia

Spring seems to have arrived overnight in Virginia. The cherry blossoms are blooming white beside the roads, daffodils crowd the verdant banks beside streams and the fields are a purple haze in the early morning sunshine.

Amid such profusion and new growth and the promise of long days and sunlit evenings, it's difficult to think of the hard iron bound desert road, the smoke from the oil wells and the mangled wreckage of trucks and tanks after a bomber has thudded down from merciless skies bereft of clouds to rain death onto the ground.

  1. You're a regular spot of sunshine today, aren't you.

Let it be known throughout the land that it was the French who first bombed them.

  2. Well put. I am honestly not sure at all how comfortable I am about what is going on in Libya. I am certain that civilians will bear the brunt of the action.

  4. I lived in VA for a time...well, McLean, which is not really Virginia in some ways :) I do miss the cherry blossoms.
I can't remember a time when the news has been this bad from so many corners of the world at once.

  5. What a beautiful sight! You are lucky to live in such a lovely part of the country, even if it does have it's dreary sections. :)

  6. Yep, I said you were good. I read somewhere yesterday that journos overdramatize - I think not - you (singular, not plural) just say it how it is. We need to think of these things and not choose amnesia.

  7. Having seen the cherry blossoms in Virginia Beach this past weekend, it did the heart good to see the beginnings of Spring but one can't help but think of what else is going on in the world.

  8. Ooooh, pretty, pretty, pretty pictures. :-) I love the blooms, David! Beautiful bits of nature like those trees are what I turn to when I want to escape from the harsh reality of life. Nature's beauty is a salve for me to help heal the wounds inflicted upon my psyche from listening to the daily news. Thank you for sharing the photos.

  10. I love Virginia in April - we usually head down there around that time of year. School vacation. So much history and beauty. Um, ya, that bombing. I don't know what we're thinking sometimes. Pull 'em out!

  11. So true. Cherry blossoms are so lovely, and in stark contradiction to greater horrors in the world. You are very articulate, David.
