I loved this post but particularly the final line which was so evocative and magical. It was quite poetic really.Happy Frog and Ihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02679066739313347920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786284110007207873.post-37547642406297787272011-04-26T10:24:36.075-07:002011-04-26T10:24:36.075-07:00Excellent post David! So sad. Nothing like the Dutch masters. Jan van Huysum's still lifes of flowers are breathtaking. The MFA, Boston, has a nice collection of the Dutch masters.Jaynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06694559900539722616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786284110007207873.post-25693332833385615322011-04-26T09:03:10.535-07:002011-04-26T09:03:10.535-07:00Vermeer is my absolute favourite painter. It's so sad to think that he died impoverished. I choose not to think he was an almost-adulterer like in the movie :PLifebeginsat30tyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10414552176251539850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8786284110007207873.post-87418473293415774672011-04-26T08:23:56.178-07:002011-04-26T08:23:56.178-07:00I had no idea, and I love this sort of information...I had no idea, and I love this sort of information. I saw one of his paintings in the National Gallery here in Dublin and loved it.

Gabriel Metsu is a painter from the same period with a similar style - apparently in the 1800s when Metsu was fashionable and Vermeer forgotten, it was not unusual for Vermeers to be sold as Metsus.
